Step 6: Clean Up and Done!

Notice that even though the bamboo burns away, the bead release has enough strength to hold open the hole. When you touch the fired bead release it will crumble away.

A lampworker's "bead reamer" (pictured below) is the ideal tool for cleaning the bead release out of the hole. If you don't have one of those, any small needle-style file will work.

Thank-you for sharing your technique.  I was wondering how much of the pendant hangs over in the first slump?  The pictures are a little deceiving regarding size.  I am guessing about 5/8 inch hangs over.  I am also guessing that you use plain skewer that you buy in the grocery store-and dip them a couple of times in bead release.  How am I doing?  Vicki Smith

You can play with different

You can play with different lengths on the hang over depending on the look you want.  A 5/8 inch length is probably about the least you can get away with.

And yes, plain old bamboo skewers from the grocery store - usually about $1 for a big fat pack Wink

I use small stainless tube dipped in kiln wash in place of the bamboo. Reusable and no smoke.

Can you also use

I just found your tutorial and it's great. Being new to this stuff I have one question - can you use the twisted fiber rope instead of the skewers? Thanks.
