using stringers

When using stringers in a design, what causes straight stringers to come out wigglely when fired? It is the temperature? If so, what is the best temperature to use so that glass pieces are fused and stringers stay straight?

You can keep the stringers
You can keep the stringers perfectly straight by glueing them to the base glass and then flipping the whole thing over and firing upside-down. The weight of the top (base) glass keeps everthing in place.
