using Xantham gum instead of CMC

Has anyone used xantham gum instead of CMC as a thickener with glass powders?  If so, what was the result?  Did it burn off ok?  I want to use it as a thickener instead of cmc as it is easier to get and a little goes a long way.

Any help or suggestions are appreciated.
