Leaded glass
Submitted by Glassdog on Thu, 09/04/2008 - 19:20.
I'm looking for clear glass with a high lead content. I like how copper inclusions look with this type of glass. I would like about 3 to 5 pounds. It will not be used to make items for eating or touching the skin due to safety considerations.
Thanks.

Can you work with billets?
Can you work with billets? Gaffer makes a casting crystal with a high lead content - and beautiful refraction - but it is only available in billets. These folks sell it:

Firing lead glass is safe. If you are going to do any cold-working/grinding/sandblasting then you really need to take respiratory safety seriously. Breathing in ground lead glass is a bad thing.

Thanks for the tip - I hadn't thought of the risks while cold working only while wearing or eating from the finished project.
Billets aren't my first choice but I could hammer them into submission if I can't find anything else:-)
Thanks for the suggestion.
