Microwave glass fusing

Hi

I am new to this forum and also new to glass fusing.

About a month ago I bought myself a microwave glass fusing kiln and have been making cabochons.

I was just wondering if many members use microwaves as I know the fusing times, temperatures and techniques are obviously different to a standard kiln.

I purchased one of these kits also recently.  I do not know how to layout the glass to make a cab.

How well do they work?

I use a kiln. In fact, I have three kilns, two which are my workhorses. How well does the microwave doohickey work? Can you really properly anneal the glass?

There really isn't a way to properly anneal in a microwave kiln.

To properly anneal a piece of glass is to bring it to a point of melting with out the outer skin losing it's shape.  (to remove any stress fractures)  Then evenly lower the temperature through out the entire piece below the strain point.  Depending on the size and thickness of the glass this process can take a couple hours.

I just don't see a microwave allowing an even distribution of heat and lowering at a slow enough pace.

I have also heard tales of the microwave kilns destroying microwaves.
